An evening of poetry and stories in response to Almost Nothing, a major new installation by Clive Murphy.
Floating Worlds will feature the following writers:
Andrea Jenkins was a Givens Foundation Fellow and won the Loft Mentor Series mentorship in 2002. Her work has appeared in several publications and she has performed with The Outward Spiral, Mama Mosaic and others. Andrea’s chapbook is called tributaries: poems celebrating black history. She co-curates the S.A.S.E. Carol Connolly GLBT Reading Series.
Jen McClung writes mostly poetry. She is also a singer-songwriter and a visual artist. Jen received her MFA from Chatham University where she received Chatham’s first Rachel Carson Fellowship. Currently, Jen teaches writing courses for Iowa State University and Des Moines Area Community College.
While her four-year-old naps, Meghan Maloney-Vinz can either be found managing Water~Stone Review, writing poetry or doing laundry. Meghan received her MFA from Hamline University where her manuscript was a finalist for the Outstanding Poetry Thesis. Her work has appeared in the public poetry project Kinship Circle Poems, produced by Accordion Press.
Heidi Rivers holds an MFA in Writing from Hamline University where she was nominated for the Outstanding Thesis award in Creative Nonfiction in 2008. Her essay "Face" was featured on Gather.com and won a Citizen’s Journalism prize, which led to an internship at The Huffington Post. She spends her spare time reflecting on society and politics through the written word.
Andy Sturdevant is a Minneapolis-based artist, curator, and writer who is a regular contributor to ARP!, MNArtists and Secrets of the City. He curated the History Room: 20 Years of No Name and the Soap Factory at The Soap Factory last season. Andy is also a contributor to the Electric Arc Radio Show music and performance series at the Ritz Theater in Minneapolis.
Saymoukda Vongsay is a Lao American spoken word artist, writer, and agent for social change.
She has performed around the world and has worked with Yo! The Movement and the Minnesota Spoken Word Association doing outreach through Hip Hop workshops and lectures. She is an associate editor for Bakka Lao Literary Journal and the author of a book of poetry, No Regrets.
