Getting ready for Secret City
Jun 11 2013
Minneapolis is gearing up for a brand new festival called Secret City on June 22nd!
Musicians, roving video artists, dancers on bikes, ping pong players, actors and people of all ages will come together to explore Minneapolis at three downtown hubs and the Midtown Greenway during the nighttime festival Secret City. Reflecting the places, diverse voices and people of the city, free performances and participatory events will occur in downtown Minneapolis from 6 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. at the Minneapolis Convention Center Plaza, the Sculpture Garden/Basilica of Saint Mary area, and along Hennepin Avenue, between 5th and 9th Streets. In addition, the Midtown Greenway bike path will feature artists and other activities during its annual event, Greenway Glow, 6 p.m. – midnight. Ride your bike, or park and walk between the sites. Stop along the path and make your own art with the thousands of pieces of sidewalk chalk that will be available between the three festival areas downtown. Activity will occur in downtown Minneapolis and along the Midtown Greenway. Food trucks will be located at the Minneapolis Convention Center and primarily along 12th Street, between the Convention Center and Hennepin Avenue.
The Soap Factory is participating in Secret City with a brand new project by Ben Fain and Frank Van Duerm. The Head & The Hand is inspired by legendary Wisconsin outsider artist Fred Smith (1886 - 1976). The Secret City Festival seeks to activate sites and spaces throughout Minneapolis that are under-utilized or overlooked. The Head & The Hand takes place in a parking lot on Hennepin Ave, tucked beneath the highway, next to the Basillica of St. Mary’s. Fain will transform the parking lot for one night with film, sculpture, performance, music and light.

A year since Alone
Mar 27 2013
It's hard to believe it was 1 year ago that Trampled by Turtles was shooting a video for "Alone" here at The Soap Factory. They filmed the video in Caly McMorrow's Art(ists) On the Verge 3 installation last Spring (with her permission of course). The video turned out pretty great!
